Before Larry and I got married, we got an awesome custom-made book filled with recipes, old photos of us and sagely marriage wisdom from our family and friends. Our “Marriage Survival Handbook” is five years old now, the pages well-worn as we turn to some of our favorite recipes year after year.
And the advice still stands. One of my favorites? “Never go to bed angry.”

In that same vein, I’ve begun collecting “parenting wisdom” on a pinboard of the same name. You can see some of the gems I’ve pinned below:
Of all the pins I’ve collected so far, this one is by far my favorite, from How to Be Perfect Parent in 5 Easy Steps… or Probably Never:
Writer Una LaMarche begins her post rather uncomprimisingly:
“I don’t dole out much parenting advice as a rule, largely because I have an almost 18-month-old and spend most of my days feeling like a complete and utter fraud and failure. I know that sounds depressing, but here is the truth that will set you free: That’s what parenting is.“
The rest of her post follows with some of the most candid advice about what it’s like to raise a child I’ve seen anywhere. And I love it – the brashness, the sass – all of it. Sometimes, as much as all of the parenting books and resources out there want to sugarcoat the finer points of parenting a newborn, it’s nice to have someone just tell it like it is.
So in that same spirit: what’s your sagely parenting wisdom? Tell it like it is in the comments!
