Spent all day at the RESOLVE New England Annual Conference. As always, made amazing connections and learned so much. What a fantastic day. I’ll have a more complete recap in the coming days.
NaNoWriMo continues: 4055 words, first and last chapters written, save for the final line. Got a lame placeholder there right now.
Random: I’m in the process of “collecting” birth stories, that is, if you feel so inclined to share your birth story, if you have one to share, I would be honored to hold that in my heart space. It’s really helpful for me to hear a panorama of birth experiences as I continually weigh the midwife/OB debate right now. I have to decide soon; I graduate this week from my RE.
Also random: really into turquoise and teal right now.
Crap! Only 5 minutes left for today. Need to cut this short and go get a post up at Words Empowered!
Something of substance tomorrow, promise.

I put it up just for you:

I will mention that I lived just 25 minutes away from one of the best children’s hospitals in the country. To me, it was an easy decision to stay with my OB and deliver at the hospital he practiced at. Although my doctor did not deliver Little K, I felt so well educated by his care during my pregnancy that labor and birth without him was no big deal. He was on-call the day we were discharged and came to see us in our room before we left. He was a great doctor!

I went with an OB, but I live in Spain and the option of using a midwife is not widely available. If I ever manage to get pregnant again I would think seriously about searching out a midwife somewhere, somehow… It’s not that I am unhappy with my daughter’s birth (how could I be?!?!), but I’d appreciating having a bit more “control” (hahaha, control?). Anyway, I posted my birth story shortly after it happened, not wanting to forget a single second of it, so if you’d like to read it….

My friend who’s a doula has a page with 4 pretty different birth stories (2 are hers), 3 hospital (2 with interventions including a c-section) and one home water birth. http://www.headwatersgentlebirth.com/birth-stories

You’re very right. Reading birth stories is an important way to prepare yourself for the journey you have ahead. Here’s the birth story for my son:

The blog, Mama Birth, has lots of birth stories on it. Many are of the midwife variety, but there are some featuring OB births, too.

I think the midwife/OB debate can be greatly influenced by if you are carrying a singleton or multiples. I may have missed if you posted about that!

I considered a homebirth midwife and tossed the idea aside (not enough education for me). I then chose to see an OB practice with multiple nurse midwife’s, and deliver in the in-hospital birth center. Turns out, I had a very normal pregnancy (minus lots of fears due to the infertility), and then had a baby that stopped moving at term. I was so, so glad I chose that practice in hindsight, and listened to my gut.

Baby #2 ended up high risk from the start, and this same practice was wonderfully cautious. Birth #2 is thankfully more boring:

I have a very different birth story to share – Lucky was breech and therefore I had a c-section. No real labor to speak of. But I’ve shared it on my blog and you’re more than welcome to read it if you’d like.

Love teal. I imagine that would work well for you and your skin tone? Turquiose is gorgeous too: there are some amazing necklaces out there including my dream one: http://www.theblondesalad.com/2012/02/new-york-day-4.html I have a pair of colored jeans in teal that get a lot of use. I just got Esperanza into colored jeans. I think you should check them out: Old Navy has great maternity clothes and jeans when you are ready.
I have had my birth story in a draft file for over a year. Happy to hit publish on that puppy 🙂
